Daily Dose of Gratitide (11/22/23)

I remember hearing an NPR report on gratitude a few years ago.  I was impressed that the report stated that there was scientific proof that taking a minute once or twice a day to think of something one is grateful for, can have positive effects on physical health, not just mental health.

"A daily gratitude practice can decelerate the effects of neurodegeneration (as measured by a 9 percent increase in verbal fluency) that occurs with increasing age. Grateful people have 16 percent lower diastolic blood pressure and 10 percent lower systolic blood pressure compared to those less grateful."

Since hearing that report, I have been trying to remember to do this. Many of you who may read my Friday Upbeat messages, may hear that I often write how grateful I am to work in such a wonderful place like the Suzuki School of Newton. I am grateful to know so many of you, and look forward to meeting more of our new families and students.  I am very grateful to the wonderful teachers we have in both the Preschool and the Music School. Last weekend was extra special as I participated in our faculty concert---a fabulous display of talent and passion for music.

In this Thanksgiving season, I want to thank all of you who make up our Suzuki School's community.  I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and look forward to our continued and shared experiences around music and learning.

Warmly,

Sachiko

On Sunday, December 3rd at 4:45 pm, the Waban Improvement Society will celebrate "Waban Lights" in front of the Waban Library Center with holiday carol singing, hot chocolate and snacks.  The singing will be led by our Musicianship faculty Rose Hegele---so come join in on this free neighborhood event!
