The Suzuki School of Newton is celebrating its 20th musical season. Since its founding in 1986 by Gwendoline Thornblade, the school continues to instill a lifelong love of music and learning in its students. Based upon the teaching philosophy of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, the school's music instruction endeavors to develop noble hearted human beings and build self-respect, self-confidence and a capacity for self-discipline.

No child is turned away for financial hardship; the James Thornblade Memorial Fund enables need-based scholarship assistance to all children. Named in memory of board member, James Thornblade, the fund continues to enable students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and communities from throughout eastern Massachusetts to attend the Suzuki School of Newton, a non-profit cultural organization.

The Artist Concert Series
is now in its third season and was established in order to bring high caliber, renowned artists in concert as part of the educational experience of SSN's students, families and friends. Artist Concert Series 2005-06 is made possible in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Cutural Council and from our sponsor, M. Steinert and Sons and is the major fundraising event for the school's scholarship fund.

The Suzuki School of Newton is a non-profit charitable organization. Tuition only covers a percentage of operating costs. We depend on the generosity of our community through Annual giving to enable the full range of educational and cultural services the school's program offers. Each family of the school is expected to contribute to the annual fund or attend the Artist Concert Series which benefits the James Thornblade Memorial Scholarship Fund.

In conjunction with its 20th anniversary celebration, the Suzuki School of Newton has established the Gwendoline Thornblade Endowment Fund, in honor of its founding director. The proceeds of this fund are to be used in fulfillment of the wishes of the founder, that being, to benefit the faculty of the Suzuki School of Newton and enable them to further their Suzuki education and training. This ensures not only the continued high quality of the teaching at the school, but also maintains the integrity of Dr. Suzuki's philosophy which forms the mission of the school, and of which the teachers are charged to uphold. By becoming a premier donor, you will be an honored guest for two exciting events in 2006: the Charness Family Concert in May 2006 with special seating and reception and the Gala Playathon in October 2006.

Because SSN's fiscal year runs from September to August, you may choose to honor your pledge over two calendar years.
