Artist Concert Series Fall 08

The Suzuki School of Newton would like to invite you and your family to our annual Artist Concert series. It is the mission of our school to provide great classical music at an accessible venue at an accessible price. Join us for an afternoon of performances from world class musicians, Jennifer Frautschi (violin), Emmanuel Feldman (cello) and Joy Cline-Phinney (piano) as they present works from Bach, Bartok, Gershwin, Kreisler, and Mendelssohn. All proceeds of this concert benefit the James Thornblade Memorial Scholarship Fund which provides need based financial aid at our school. Barn Dance and Potluck Supper!

Come join us for our summer festivities as we kick off our first Barn Dance and Potluck supper! Children and parents of all ages are welcome to attend this event that is open to the public. Bring food and drink to share and your dancing shoes. This event will feature music performed by students from our fiddle workshop being led by renowned blue grass musician, Brian Wicklund. Dancing festivities will be directed by a real-live caller. Casual attire accepted but barn dance attire is highly encouraged. Don’t miss out on the fun!

Fall Registration

As of June 2nd, fall registration is now open to all students! If you are a prospective student who is interested in our school, please give us a call at 617-964-4522 to make observations. Parents who are interested must attend the parent meeting one June 18th at 7pm. As we approach the summer, please remember to be safe and have a happy and restful break!

Artist Concert Series

Hello all! Welcome to the Spring Semester! Don’t forget to sign up for solo recitals this Sunday April 6th beginning at 1:30pm. Make sure to speak with your teachers before signing up. Sunday April 13th will be our second Artist Concert Series of the year, featuring members from the Boston Chamber Music Society. Reserve your tickets today. Concert begins at 2:30pm at the Trinity Church in Newton Center. All SSN families are highly encouraged to attend this concert!

Welcome to the New Year!

Another exciting year at the Suzuki School of Newton is underway as we are fast approaching the spring semester. I would first like to thank all of our donors for their contributions made this past month. Our school is eternally grateful for all of these gifts that enable us to continue our mission. It is never too late to give to SSN. Please contact the office at 617-964-4522 to find out how to give to our school.
Recital sign up sheets have been posted online. Please remember to stop by the office and sign up to reserve your time. New SSN parents are encouraged to come to the new parent orientation on 2/5/08. This is a great opportunity to come meet members of the community and to exchange resources. Coffee will be served.
SSN will be hosting the “Every Child Can!” course from March 9-10. Sunday March 9 will be from 6-9pm and Monday will be from 9am-12pm. This course is an introduction to the Suzuki philosophy and pedagogy. It is open to all parents and or teachers looking to pursue their Suzuki
certification. The class will be taught by Michelle Higa George, renowned Suzuki teacher trainer.
The date is set for the Spring Artist Concert series. The Boston Chamber Music Society will perform at the Trinity Episcopal Church on Sunday April 13th. The program will feature works by Schumann, Brahms and Mozart.

Reregistration part 2

December 10th, 2007

The date is set, January 2nd marks the beginning of the reregistration period for spring semester. Please see your teachers immediately for correct placement. The SSN office will then accept reregistration upon completion of student/parent advisement. Please make a note of it.

Reregistration for the spring semester is coming up soon. Please speak to your teachers about your schedules to assure a smooth transition into the following months. Late fees will be enforced to those students who do not pay upon their first lessons.

Parent Coffee

Please join us on Saturday 10/27 @ 10:30am for a parent coffee. We will discuss the role of the parent as a part of the Suzuki learning triangle. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents in our lovely community.

Artist Concert Series

The Suzuki School of Newton presents the Artist Concert Series 2007-08 featuring world renowned violin soloist and Boston Symphony Orchestra member, Lucia Lin in a chamber music recital in an enchanting program featuring the Brahms Sonata in G, Op. 78 for violin and piano with pianist Sergey Schepkin, the Martinu Duo no. 1 for violin and cello with BSO colleague, cellist Owen Young; and the Beethoven Piano Trio in Bb, opus 97 known as the “Archduke” featuring all three of these prominent musicians. This fabulous program slightly shortened to be suitable for young audiences will be held on Sunday, November 4th at 3 p.m. in the Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Homer Street, in Newton Centre with handicap parking and accessibility from the Centre Street entrance. There will be a reception following the concert for audience members to meet the musicians. The Artist Concert Series has been a little known jewel in the heart of Newton Centre, accessible by T, and tickets are $10 for students/seniors and $20 for adults, $35 for patrons with proceeds benefiting the James Thornblade Scholarship Fund. The Artist Concert Series is made possible by the generous support of Citibank, M. Steinert and Sons, Newton Cultural Council and Mayor’s Office for Cultural Affairs.
