The Suzuki School of Newton is celebrating its 26th year. Since its founding in 1986 by Gwendoline Thornblade, the school has continually instilled a lifelong love of music and learning in its students. Based upon the teaching philosophy of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, the school's music instruction endeavors to develop noble hearted human beings and build self-respect, self-confidence, and self-discipline.

No child is turned away for financial hardship; the James Thornblade Memorial Scholarship Fund enables need-based scholarship assistance to all children who lack the means for a Suzuki music education. Named in memory of board member James Thornblade, the fund continues to enable students from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds from throughout eastern Massachusetts to attend the Suzuki School of Newton, a non-profit cultural organization. This year, 10% of our students received financial assistance through the school.

The Artist Concert Series is now in its sixth season and was established in order to bring high caliber, renowned artists in concert as part of the educational experience of SSN's students, families, and friends. The ACS is the major fundraising event for the school's scholarship fund.

Iggy's Bread of the World is a major contributor to our institution with their weekly bread donations. All profits made from Iggy's bread go to our James Thornblade Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The Suzuki School of Newton is a non-profit charitable organization. Tuition only covers a percentage of operating costs. We depend on the generosity of our community through Annual giving to enable the full range of educational and cultural services the school's program offers. Each family of the school is expected to contribute to the annual fund or attend the Artist Concert Series which benefits the James Thornblade Memorial Scholarship Fund. Because SSN's fiscal year runs from September to August, you may choose to honor your pledge over two calendar years.

In conjunction with its 20th anniversary celebration, the Suzuki School of Newton established the Gwendoline Thornblade Endowment Fund in honor of its founding director. The proceeds of this fund are used in fulfillment of the wishes of the founder: to benefit the faculty of the Suzuki School of Newton and enable them to further their Suzuki education and training. This fund ensures not only the perpetuation of the continued high quality of the teaching at the school, but also maintains the integrity of Dr. Suzuki's philosophy which forms the mission of the school, and of which the teachers are charged to uphold. By becoming a premier donor, you will be an honored guest for two exciting events in the current school year.

You can also help raise money for Suzuki School programs just by shopping! OneCause is an organization that allows you to support your chosen cause or school by channeling everyday purchases to well-known merchants and service providers, who contribute a percentage of every purchase back to the cause or school. Registering is easy: simply go to http://www.onecause.com/schools/the-suzuki-school-of-newton, follow the steps to create your free profile, log in, and start shopping!

The Suzuki School of Newton is pleased to offer an online tuition payment capability for currently enrolled students. You may make a one time payment either through Quickpay or you may set up your account through the Payment Wizard, which will then enable you to track your payment history with SSN.

You have two payment options:

  • Electronic check with no fee
  • Credit card with a $20 transaction processing fee

Please note that for all payments you will need to provide the SSN student's name for whom you are making a payment. For families with multiple students, each student's payment must be entered as a separate transaction so that proper credit will be applied.

We hope you will find this to be an easy to use system and helpful for clearer and more accurate record keeping for all of us! Please let us know if you have any questions or comments by emailing us or calling the SSN Office at (617) 964-4522.
